Be mindful of facts that seem obvious. Obvious “facts” might not be factual at all. Be wary of claims based on common sense. Common sense is sometimes anything but sensible. Be suspicious of people who call themselves experts. Their expertise might lie mostly in self-promotion. Be cautious of statements beginning with “I will be honest…” or “To tell the truth…”. They imply a propensity for deception. Be willing to question conventional wisdom. History shows conventional wisdom is often not very wise. Be especially vigilant regarding your cherished beliefs and opinions, lest they become the chains that stifle free thought and emotion.

That is the true challenge.
